HENRIK VIBSKOV - NECK PLUS ULTRA AT GALERIE DES GALERIES

Danish designer Henrik Vibskov has always done things a little differently. And his first current solo exhibition Neck Plus Ultra at the acclaimed gallery Galerie Des Galeries in Paris is no exception.

You will go from a stiff neck chamber consisting of bird necks hanging down from the ceiling to a hypnotic walk through spinning tunnels. It provides a whole ultra-stimulating experience: going from one state to another.

We caught up with the artist and designer for a few words on the exhibition and of course a little bit of music…

You play of the latin saying "nec plus ultra" in the title for the exhibition. And your AW13 collection is called The Stiff Neck Chamber. What’s with the neck thing?
"Not sure myself but it started with a much heavier subject the death, ceremonies and dance performances. How you in Guatemala send beautiful big kites up into the air to celebrate the death. So I focused on structures on the neck, how bones are connected and transfer into knitwear, wool, patterns etc etc.

A stiff neck = death person
A stiff neck = construction worker carrying bricks
A stiff night = Viagra
Stiff people = a group of people depicted in the Bible
Chamber = funeral box"

What track best characterizes the exhibition?
"It pays respect to the American film composer Bernard Herrmann (1911-1975) and his soundtrack to the movie Fahrenheit 451 by François Truffaut - especially the track The Bedroom".

Track currently on repeat on your iPod?
“Chimes&Bells - a Danish lo-fi indie band. 2 years ago, when I toured with Trentemøller, Chimes&Bells supported us on our European tour. The track Mole kept playing in my head for 27 days but its still amazing..."

Neck Plus Ultra. February 27th to May 4th 2013. Galerie Des Galeries, 1st floor - Lafayette Coupole 40, bd Haussmann, 75009 Paris.

  1. People tend to be interested in those who are interested in them. If you're making the effort to meet someone's gaze from across the room, this will intrigue them. Try to make eye contact first rather than waiting to be noticed. https://kodi.software/
