CPH+NYC: NEW ARRIVALS FROM WALTER VAN BEIRENDONCK

Belgium born Walter Van Beirendonck studied at the esteemed Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, where he developed his own aesthetic that fuses art and ethnic influences. Launching his first collection under his self-titled label in 1983, his big breakthrough came in 1987 where at the British Designer Show he was presented as of the influential 'Antwerp Six'. Walter Van Beirendonck's collections draw on influences from art, music and literature and reflects strong and unique cuts with a daring use of graphics and color.

ANNTIAN SPRING/SUMMER 2012 'FLAVOURLIFE'

Anntian's adoration and fascination of Nature leads us to the wonderful aesthetics of plants, leaves, flowers and blossoms. Structural, visual and haptical Beauty of leaves, the diversity of their “ornamental”, geometrical arranged surfaces within the almost “technical”, geometrical constitution of blossoms show the importance of elementariness, to sense the origins of Beauty and Meaning of things. Organic, flowery Patterns go along with technical geometrical elements as in Botanics and Nature. Fabrics show arrangements of leaves, surfaces of them in either geometrical order or natural ways and microstructures. The selected materials offer a variety of haptics: Earthy silk, fluent viscose, harmonic cotton,... all in colours of vanilla, chlorophyll, basic black and creme, cinnamon, washed out bright neon yellow, roseate, peach...

"The anticipation and expectation were at their maximum prior to the Henrik Vibskov show. Music key one… models go… and all of a sudden the beautiful collection presented paralyzed the audience. For some reason Henrik Vibskov has the power to create simple, ready-to-wear clothing, with a beautiful, Vibskov-ish, edgy twist. The main tendencies worth noticing were the floral prints, the-all-time-favourite trench coat, but now in silky, fluid materials, and suits with shorts and long socks – finally, I can tell my dad “TOLD-YOU-SO”!"
